Global Englishes |
授業の内容
This course will introduce the history and global spread of English. This course is aimed at international students as well as Japanese students who have studied abroad or who want to study abroad in the future. The classes will be taught in English. Students will be asked to actively participate in classes and give their opinions on the topics covered each week. At the end of each class, students will be asked to write a short reflection paper about the topic of the class. Students will also have the opportunity to give presentations twice during the course. |
到達目標
The purpose of the course is the deepen students' understanding of how and why English is used around the world. At the end of the course, students should be aware of some of the issues surrounding the English language and access to power and be able to explain at least one of these issues in detail. |

授業の方法
All classes will include opportunities for students to discuss and share information with each other. Active participation in class is encouraged. During the last 10 minutes of each class, students will be asked to write a short reflection paper about the topic of the class. In addition, students will be asked to prepare 2 presentations during the semester. |

授業の計画の補足
Students will be expected to prepare a mid-term presentation and a final presentation. |
課題に対するフィードバックの方法
Students will be asked to write short reflection papers at the end of the classes and the professor will provide written feedback to the reflections. In addition, the professor will provide oral feedback to students in class during the class discussions. |
授業時間外の学修(予習・復習等)
Students will be expected to read the given book chapters or excerpts before the classes. Students are also expected to review content outside of class. In addition, students will have to prepare 2 presentations during the course. |
