Japanese (Advanced)ⅠB <Reading>

The purpose of this class is to develop the applied skills in reading, through texts written at upper-intermediate level grammar and vocabulary. In particular, will acquire the ability to read and understand longer texts of various genres in an appropriate manner and express own opinions while deepening the understanding of the content and Japanese society.

・Students will be able to read written texts with upper-intermediate level grammar and vocabulary.
・Students will be able to express their opinions about the Japanese way of thinking and values.

This course consists of lectures and close reading exercises. In the close reading practice, students will read passages written in Japanese while checking grammar and vocabulary. Through pair and group work, students are required to discuss Japanese culture and Japanese attitudes and values based on the texts they read.
All lectures and learning activities will be conducted in Japanese.

This course is taught in the form of exercises, and is held on campus.　If, due to emergency, the course must be switched to remote teaching, we will us Zoom.

The content and schedule may chage depending on number of students etc,

Students will receive a comment sheet describing what they did well on the assignment and what they need to improve on.

Review the grammar and vocabulary in the sentences read in class.
Prepare for your presentation.
Estimated self-studying hours: approx. 1 hour per class.

Others: Class activity 30%, Assignment 50％
Note: You cannot receive credit for a course if you are absent more than 4 times. Please note that arriving more than 30 minutes late to a class or leaving a class when there are 30 minutes or more of the class period left will count as an absence. In addition, arriving to class less than 30 minutes late 3 times will count as 1 absence. Similarly leaving class early 3 times (when there are less than 30 minutes of the class left) will count as an absence.

Please bring your textbook. Handouts will be given in class.

Will be introduced as necessary.

Students are expected to actively participate in the class and deepen discussions with other students taking the course.
