授業の内容

This course will look into the role of international economic law based on the legal function of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
Launched in 1995 and now comprised of more than 160 countries and regions, the WTO has been contributing to free trade multilaterally by liberalizing trade in goods and services, regulating subsidies that distort export competition, and resolving trade disputes. Today, in particular, how free trade should contribute to addressing climate change, and how to prevent human rights infringements such as forced labor throughout the supply chains are important issues for the WTO.
For Japan too, re-building its strategy to address those issues is essential. This course focuses on those contemporary issues in terms of both legal theory and political economics.

到達目標

This course aims at acquiring basic knowledge of international economic law and enhancing reading and writing skills by going through legal documents.

授業の方法

A worksheet (reading and writing assignment beasd on legal documents) will be handed out every time at the begining of the class. Students are required to work on it for 30-40 minutes, followed by a lecture.
