Japanese (Elementary 1) Ⅱ

This course is intended for students who have completed a starter level Japanese course, equivalent to the CEFR A1. Students should be able to introduce themselves and others, as well as ask questions about personal details such as where they live, please they know and things they have.
Throughout both Elementary 1 and Elementary 2 classes, while deepening their understanding of Japanese culture, students learn Japanese at the CEFR A2 level, which corresponds to the latter half of the beginner stage. Students can develop comprehensive Japanese language skills in reading, listening, speaking and writing.
In particular, they will acquire the communication skills in simple Japanese related to topics that are familiar and interesting to them.

【Goal】
By the end of the course, students should be able to do the following:
1) communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters to do with everyday life;
2) understand phrases and expressions related to areas of most immediate priority, e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment, provided speech is clearly and slowly articulated; and
3) produce brief everyday expressions in order to satisfy simple needs of a concrete type, e.g. personal details, daily routines, wants and needs, requests for information.

This class will be conducted as a set with the Tuesday class. Please make sure to enroll in both.

We may change the schedule as needed.

I will provide feedback as needed during class, and I will also give feedback on homework assignments as appropriate.

Please ensure to preview vocabulary before each class, as it will be assessed as part of the homework. Additionally, it is crucial to independently review kanji after each class. Mini quizzes including kanji will be conducted at the end of each topic, and these will also contribute to the assessment. I recommend studying on the following website.

Examinations: There will be two regular tests, one for midterm and one for final.
Grammar, Kanji, and vocabulary tests will be given in class on Fridays.
"小テスト" includes Homework and Miniquiz.
Attendance: You cannot receive credit for a course if you are absent more than 4 times. Please note that arriving more than 30 minutes late to a class or leaving a class when there are 30 minutes or more of the class period left will count as an absence. In addition, arriving to class less than 30 minutes late 3 times will count as 1 absence. Similarly leaving class early 3 times (when there are less than 30 minutes of the class left) will count as an absence.
