Japanese (Elementary 1) I

This course is intended for students who have completed a starter-level Japanese course, equivalent to the CEFR A1. Students should be able to introduce themselves and others, as well as ask questions about personal details such as where they live and what they like.
Throughout both Elementary 1 and Elementary 2 classes, while deepening their understanding of Japanese culture, students learn Japanese at the CEFR A2 level, which corresponds to the latter half of the beginner stage. Students can develop comprehensive Japanese language skills in reading, listening, speaking and writing. In particular, they will acquire the communication skills in simple Japanese related to topics that are familiar and interesting to them.

By the end of the course, students should be able to do the following:
1) communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters to do with everyday life;
2) understand phrases and expressions related to areas of most immediate priority, e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment, provided speech is clearly and slowly articulated; and
3) produce brief everyday expressions in order to satisfy simple needs of a concrete type, e.g. personal details, daily routines, wants and needs, requests for information.

This class will be conducted as a set with the Friday/Tuesday class. Please make sure to enroll in both.
The class will be conducted in an exercise format.

We may change the schedule as needed.

Homework will be reviewed in class or returned to students with feedback.

Please ensure to preview vocabulary before each class, as it will be assessed as part of the homework. Additionally, it is crucial to independently review kanji after each class. Mini quizzes including kanji will be conducted at the end of each topic, and these will also contribute to the assessment. We recommend studying on the following website. Further details will be explained in the first class.

1回の授業につき予習・復習あわせて最低1時間の学修が必要となります。
「授業時間外の学修（予習・復習等）」に明記されている想定学修時間の合計が1時間を上回っている場合は、その学修時間を必要とします。

"小テスト" includes Homework and Miniquiz.
Examinations: There will be two regular tests, a mid-term exam, and a final exam. In the Tuesday class, a speaking performance test will be conducted.
Attendance: You cannot receive credit for a course if you are absent more than 4 times. Please note that arriving more than 30 minutes late to a class or leaving a class when there are 30 minutes or more of the class period left will count as an absence. In addition, arriving to class less than 30 minutes late 3 times will count as 1 absence. Similarly leaving class early 3 times (when there are less than 30 minutes of the class left) will count as an absence.

There are multiple levels and types available. Please make sure to purchase both "Katsudoo" and "Rikai " of "Elemantary1 A2" .

If you know you will not attend a class, please notify an instructor of the course in advance.
Students are expected to actively participate in class. They are also expected to submit homework on time.
