Japanese (Advanced)ⅠB <Reading>

The purpose of this course is to develop practical reading skills through texts written at an upper-intermediate level of grammar and vocabulary. In particular, students will acquire the ability to read and comprehend longer texts from various genres, express their own opinions, and deepen their understanding of both the content and Japanese society.

・Students will be able to read written texts with upper-intermediate level grammar and vocabulary.
・Students will be able to express their opinions about the Japanese way of thinking and values.

This course consists of lectures and close reading exercises. In the close reading sessions, students will read Japanese passages while focusing on grammar and vocabulary. Through pair and group activities, students will engage in discussions on Japanese culture, attitudes, and values based on the texts they read.
All lectures and learning activities will be conducted in Japanese.

The course will primarily take the form of exercises and will be held on campus. If the course needs to be switched to remote learning due to an emergency, classes will be conducted via Zoom.

The content and schedule may chage depending on number of students etc,

Students will receive a comment sheet describing what they did well on the assignment and what they need to improve on.

Review the grammar and vocabulary in the sentences read in class.
Prepare for your presentation.
Estimated self-studying hours: approx. 1 hour per class.

1回の授業につき予習・復習あわせて最低1時間の学修が必要となります。
「授業時間外の学修（予習・復習等）」に明記されている想定学修時間の合計が1時間を上回っている場合は、その学修時間を必要とします。

Others: Class activity 30%, Assignment 50％
Note: You cannot receive credit for a course if you are absent more than 4 times. Please note that arriving more than 30 minutes late to a class or leaving a class when there are 30 minutes or more of the class period left will count as an absence. In addition, arriving to class less than 30 minutes late 3 times will count as 1 absence. Similarly leaving class early 3 times (when there are less than 30 minutes of the class left) will count as an absence.

Please bring your textbook. Handouts will be given in class.

Will be introduced as necessary.

Students are expected to actively participate in class and engage in meaningful discussions with their classmates to deepen their understanding of the topics.
